Lindsey workers vote to return to work
29th June 2009
This morning (Monday) workers at the Lindsey oil refinery voted
in favour of the deal reached between unions and construction
employers last week on 25th June.
The deal reinstates all the workers and they have begun
returning to work this morning.
The agreement also means a Unite official has been appointed to
represent Lindsey workers on a full-time basis until the end of the
project. He will be based at the refinery.
Unite's assistant general secretary, Les Bayliss, said: “The
last few days have shown just how much can be achieved through
constructive negotiations. We hope that the lessons learned at
Lindsey are not forgotten. As the biggest union in construction we
look forward to a new chapter of industrial relations in
construction. I hope the employers do too.
“The deal agreed by the workers means their full reinstatement
and they have already begun returning to work.
“Unite remained committed to getting full reinstatement, nothing
less would have been acceptable.”
