Government consultation on Post Office must go further

2 December 2009

Unite is disappointed that the government consultation, announced today by Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, does not go far enough.

Unite believes that the Post Office network is key to removing social exclusion from society and making available banking services to all.

Paul Reuter, Unite national officer said: "The government have missed a real opportunity to provide a people's bank based at the Post Office. The government should extend this consultation to examine how this could be done. The Post Office network is key to removing social exclusion from society and making available banking services to all. A Post Office Bank can make a valuable contribution to society."
